Letters to the editor: Water bottlenecks growth

Scott Learn’s article on the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s analysis of bottled water further supports the on-going conversation about how this product negatively impacts the environment (“Tap water beats bottled water in Oregon environmental study,” Nov. 18).
Also worth noting are the ways in which bottled water operations harm the communities where they operate by depleting local water supplies and introducing pollution, traffic and noise to rural areas. Such impacts are currently of special concern to residents of Cascade Locks — the site of a proposed Nestle water bottling facility.
Oregonians should use the wisdom put forth in the DEQ study to put down the bottled water and join allies in working to prevent the construction of this bottled water plant and the destruction that it would surely wreak.
